Who banned him? Why? How long?

He just IMed me and asked. I feel like these things should be communicated to the banee.

I did, bypassing the profanity filter for starters.

Re: BoxTree

Okay, can you tell me how long he's banned for?

I don't think that [censored] is into the whole "temporary banning" thing.

Okay, good to know. So I should just go ahead and unban him myself? (read: banning him permenantly is retarded, even for [censored])

If you're referring to the jason_t example, then you really have no idea what's going on. I didn't unban him, first of all; also, Jason is one of the best and most active posters on this site in forums that aren't a big, middle-school style clusterfuck (e.g. the one you "moderate").

Furthermore, I barely know boxtree. I met him once in January at a 2+2 get together in NYC. Since then we've occasionally exchanged PMs and IMs. I know that he posts somewhat regularly and mostly in strategy forums. I've never read a post from him that I didn't enjoy on a higher level than "SIIHP".

Banning him permanently is absurd and if I have the ability to undo that I will. The point of moderating this forum is to make it a better place, not for you to exert your power of banning people at your discretion w/o just cause (no, circumventing the profanity filter is not just cause for a permanent banning).

Can you please get your head out of your ass before you continue posting/banning people? Those of us w/ a semblance of reason would appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: BoxTree

if he wants to have his banning reviewed he can either contact me or contact mat. that is the process. There was a similar situation, the poster did so and he was promptly unbanned. I would assume if it means enough to him he will do that, or he will simply create another account. I'm not going to make some note to remember to unban him in 3 days or whenever.

He didn't know who banned him. How can contacting you be an assumed first step? People that don't give a [censored] about OOT politics don't know what "you have been [censored] have a great day" means. I know, it must be shocking to find out that "you've been [censored]" hasn't been accepted to American vernacular. Give me a break!

He contacted me because he didn't know wtf to do.

No need to, I'm unbanning him now. He clearly got the point, don't curse. You say you have no time span in mind and "There was a similar situation, the poster did so [contacted you] and he was promptly unbanned," so I see now reason not to make this unbanning prompt as well.

Re: BoxTree

Evan,

You are way out of line here. Mat made it very clear in the other thread that mods shouldn't be overruling each other's decisions. If there's a disagreement, the issue should be brought to Mat.

If you don't remember Mat's post, I'll quote it for you here.

Mods shouldn't overrule one another without discussion... In a case where there is no agreement, I should be asked to make the final decision.

This attitude Evan has that he can override any other mod's decison just because he feels like it is a serious problem.
