Re: Whats fair?

AK will win this about 70% of the time.

So, if they're going to agree to a deal without seeing a flop, they should split the difference between the 1st and 2nd place prize money 70/30.

Example: 1st place $200, 2nd place $100.

Player with AK gets 100 + (100*.7) = $170
Player with AQ gets 100 + (100*.3) = $130

Poker Gods

I may be wrong but I have the suspicion that King J is not looking for any kind of "fair deal" but is after the most righteous, the most morally correct result.

Since he is not interested in the mathematically correct split or the players' strength, what else is there?

King_J 05-26-2003 11:43 AM

Cyris is correct

I know that AK is a big favorite against AQs. I also know that this question is strange.

But, I consider a split to be the most fair result afther the river.

Re: Cyris is correct

Why is a 50/50 split fair?

King_J 05-26-2003 11:49 AM

No split

There is no split for the cash. There might not even be money involved.
I just wanna have the most fair result for the hand. It is just a silly question. But I guess Dynasty thinks that AKo should win?

Ahhhh... The poker Gods giveth, and they taketh away

I too think this is more of a moral and righteous question than a theoretical mathematical question.

I think the hand should be played out and no deals made. Dynasty might be right about the 70/30 thing, I haven't run any simulations on the matter. But even so, run the cards, pay your dues, and take your chances.

And don't tempt the gods, they are fickle.

Behind every quest for fairness . . .

. . . there is usually a bad beat story.

Re: Whats fair?

check your math...

Player with AK gets 100 + (100*.7) = $170 = 56.7% of total
Player with AQ gets 100 + (100*.3) = $130 = 43.3%

total pot is $300. The correct way to figure this split (or in general, a similar split, among n players) is

Money to player i =(1st place money + 2nd + ... + nth place money)* (percent of time player i is expected to win with his hand)

So, for this simple case, the split should be $210 and $90.

If you've been splitting your way, you've been either ripping off, or getting ripped off.
