incident at a bar

After much arguing and driving, me and some friends agreed to go to a lounge/bar place. One of the girls in our group in the front goes ahead. When it comes time for my friend to show id, they won't let him in because he is wearing sandals and sandals are not allowed. My friend (mr. sandals), points out that the girl in our group who was just let in was wearing sandals. Doorman explains that they want to get as many girls as possible, and the girls want well dressed guys. SO no men with sandals. Sandals starts getting upset, bitching about how stupid and unfair this policy is. He is yelling and screaming. The doormen gets the bouncer to kick my friend out, and I go and collect the others. We all go the bar next door. Sandals complains for a good half hour about how stupid the doorman was.

Who is the douchebag here?

Sandals... no question. Policy is policy no matter how stupid it is.

Your friend, of course.

Your friend played it pretty poorly. Yelling and screaming at the doorman will only convince him that he doesn't belong. The best play is to point out to the doorman that he's with a group of classy people that doesn't want to split up. That he has brought women with him. Etc. Or if necessary that he has brought some friends with green faces. Depends on how badly you guys want to go in this place. Staying cool and being reasonable are the only chance he has.

The fact that he got denied due to sandals, the fact that he was wearing sandals, and the fact that he handled it so poorly tells me that the guy was probably some shlub in scuffed-up carpenter pants wearing a Billabong t-shirt with ketchup stains on it, and that's why he got played.
