AJ good enough?

PokerStars Game #2765105214: Tournament #12955831, Hold'em No Limit - Level XI (600/1200) - ante 75 Total-2500

UTG+1 AJo with 10,000 chips M of 4

324 get paid, ~450 left

I don't care about sliding into the money, but was this still too aggressive? Also, I hate doing this in EP and feel like pushing with weaker cards in LP might be better. Thoughts?

If pushing here is wrong, it is not terribly so. It's better to bust out here than get blinded out while being forced to make a stand w/J2o or something like that.

I push. Yeah, sometimes I bust, too, but I still think it's better than not pushing.

Thanks for the replies. Villian ended up calling with AQ and no miracles for me. At the time I knew it was a very close decision and when the table doesn't scare me, I usually wait for a more clear cut hand. All in all I guess pushing with this was about the same as pushing A rag or KJ in LP.

I'd say that pushing here is better than pushing A-rag in LP. With an M of 4, you may get looked up by AT, and a lot of pockets. If your rag is too low in your LP push, those pockets may be an overpair to one of your cards, putting you at a distinct disadvantage. This way, at least the person doing the looking has to have JJ or better to put you in that bad of a condition. Also, if you're in EP, your situation is getting even more desperate, and the fact is that you could really use these blinds to get you through another set of blinds. Each time you go through them, you lose a lot of fold equity. If I'm the big stack in the BB (and probably in the SB too), I'm looking you up with any two if you have 3 bb or less, in an ante situation where I'm getting better pot odds, I look you up with anything (maybe barring 72, 83, etc, but 84 would probably be enough) as long as I'm getting 2:1.
