MP is loose passive, bb just posted for the first time:
hero dealt AcQd sb, MP calls, hero raises bb reraises mp and hero call.
flop: Tc 7d 2s, hero checks, bb bets, mp folds, hero calls (bad call i guess)
turn: 5d, hero checks, bb bets, hero folds
not sure about this hand. any thoughts? thanks

Unless you know your opponent has AA, KK, AK, AT, A7, A2 (or better made hand), then your call on the flop is not bad at all. I think you played this fine.

Fold the flop.
Pre-flop 3-bet probably means 99/TT+, AK, AQs.

I used to call this flop quite liberally, and I've begun to think it's not correct.

It is very unlikely you are ahead at this point, and you must severely discount your six outs. If you say you have like 4.5 outs on average, getting 10-1 from the pot it seems that you have a very thin call here.

But, your hand is probably laying reverse implied odds, as you may hit a Q and still lose to AA, KK, QQ, or TT or chop with another AQ; you may hit an A and lose to AA, TT, or AK or chop with AQ. The only hands against which you really want to be against here is JJ or the less likely 99.

I think the fact you'll often hit and only cost yourself more pushes down the effective odds here and makes the flop a fold.

This depends entirely on the BB's 3-bet range, which we do not know. Some people only 3-bet aces. Some will 3-bet any pocket pair (e.g. people who have read Phil Hellmuth's book). Some will 3-bet any ace, or any two broadway, hell any one broadway. Some will 3-bet suited connectors. You get the picture.

Since we know nothing about this opponent, I don't think it's necessarily bad to peel one off on the flop.

Now if we had a read that this player was solid, that would be a different story...
