OT: \"settle for half\"?

[ QUOTE ]
In those early days of playing poker, from about 1985 to 1987, what games were you playing and who were you playing against?
We were playing $25-$50 no-limit, and we would settle for half at the end of the night.

i would presume "they" would be happy to get half the money by the end of the night.

Ha, good question. My guess would be that maybe if others didn't want to play 25-50, they'd play half those stakes... so maybe 10-25. I have no idea though.

The "early days" = 1985 (mygoofyass)...I was playing $4/$8 open-blind/raise blind lowball in Calif cardrooms in 1966

I believe it means that Seidel and the other sharps would let the losers pay back just half their losses. Might help keep the game going for longer and could end up with more winnings in the end.

I'm jealous. I also wish I could learn to play lowball without losing both arms and the majority of my legs to sharks first.
