Searching 2+2 Question

I'd assumed it's possible to search everything that any member has ever written to 2+2, but when I attempted to do that for one individual I found the search was limited to about the last 3 months. Help!!!

Old posts retire to the archives and can be hunted down here.

Last night I tried to get the info I needed, using the site you referred me to. I tried many approaches, and had no success. However, this morning (with a head much clearer, I suspect) the first thing I tried worked. Thanks!

Re: Searching 2+2 Question

I have another problem that definetly fits in this thread.

When I search, it pulls up ALL recent posts from the selected forum, no matter if my search term appears in the post or not.

Anybody else have this problem?

Use the symbol + in front of each word.

If you search for: poker hand beginner aces
to try to get a hand with aces you were looking for, it would pull up every post with one of those words in, which would basically be the whole forum

You would need to search for +poker +hand +beginner +aces

Liberal use of double quotes is also recommended when dealing with phrases. For instance, +"Aces up" works much better than +Aces +up if you wanted to know what that term means.

You can also use the - sign to exclude things. For example, one useful one is "-re:" which displays only the OP, and none of the replies. Good for trimming down noise in search results.

This is very helpful. In fact, it might be nice to include some of these pointers on one of the stickies here or in microlimits forum for newbies rather than repeatedly telling folks "use the search function". I've tried to use it several times with limited success, but these pointers will really help. Thanks!

You do know you can click on the user name. Then it goes to his profile and you can click on “show all users posts”. Is this what you are looking to do - and it won't let you past 3 months?
