Blind war with TAG

Folded to me in the SB and I raise 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (hmm...), TAG BB 3-bets, I call

Flop is 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

I check, he bets, I raise, he calls

Turn is 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

I bet, he raises, I fold

What do we think?

If he just calls the turn bet...
-check fold a river [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ? (other than a 9 or a 7? then bet-fold?)

-check-fold if river is king or ace, but not [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Re: Blind war with TAG

What limit is this? I fold preflop regardless, as tangling with TAGs in blind wars is not the most profitable of strategies. I'd probably bet the flop, but not really sure what I'd do from there...

4/8 so 1/2 blind structure. Preflop might be bad.
Donking on the flop accomplishes nothing I think.

I hate the turn fold, you have a gutshot draw yo.

Don't really like the flop checkraise, I don't think we have much fold equity here.

I like a basic check-call, folding the river UI.

Getting into blind wars against certain players will cost you more in the long run. You shouldnt be autoraising here. If he's weak or likely to fold the flop, then raising is fine. If he's aggressive or going to show you for metagame purposes that he wont be pushed around, this is an easy fold. If he is loose passive, this can be a complete.

I don't think a check/call on the turn is good. He probably has an overpair to my sevens and a [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] can kill my hand.

If I know he's TAG and will play in 2+2 style and he doesn't know too much about me - does this fact gives me the edge to play this hand with an openraise?

I generally wont try stealing from the SB against a thinking player with suited cheese. The positional advantage that the button confers can only be overcome through relentless aggression. I think this adds too much variance and not enough EV.

Raising from the SB has value in two ways. (1) You stand a chance of winning immediately. or (2) You stand a chance of winning on a bluff later based on your preflop raise. Against a thinking player, however, I'm not sure how much equity you gain either way by raising preflop.
