I think you mean its the country thats thought of in much higher regard than the US by other countries.

So its the popular kid everyone else really likes, instead of the bully fat kid who scares people into saying they like them.

I think it's because the United States is the only country in the world that can do whatever it wants without the support of the international community (not that I'm saying we should, that's something for politics, I'm just making the point).
