Wealthy ATM, or so I thought
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, and for the lack of interesting information.
I've been playing holdem on a casino boat about once a week for the last two months. The first few times I played there was a middle-aged Asian women at the table, whom everyone seemed to know. She was attractive, well dressed and was wearing lots of expensive looking jewelry. She was known as kind of a high roller and everyone was excited when she sat in on the game. It was my first time playing N/L and I was pretty happy that I busted her out and finished up the night up around $600. This morning, my son and I went to a local diner for breakfast and the waitress looked familiar. I soon realized that this waitress was the "high-roller' on the casino boat. I don't know what to make of this, but it doesn't sit too well with me for some reason. Like I said, sorry for the lack of content, but I just wanted to air this out. Bill PS. I left her a nice tip! |

OUCH!!! Always nice to imagine your victims can afford to lose, but sadly that isn't the case much of the time. Strange thing this profession. In a way, we are all drug dealers: making our big bucks on the depravity of others.

I hope you said hello to her!
A high roller at a 1/2 NL game? Sounds like she can afford that limit to me. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |
Re: Wealthy ATM, or so I thought
she has just as much right to sit at the poker table as any other player. She obviously works and if she wants to play poker, she has just as much right to be there as anyone. If you feel bad about taking her money, you are a snob.
Men the Master was called Money Machine Men when He was a dishwasher and just learning the game. She may always be a fish, but it is possible, that you should get all of her money that you can, while you are still able to get it. |

- the only poker table going on the boat. 300max buyin and the typical preflop raise is $30 and higher, with many pots over a grand. This has no similarity to any other 1/2 NL game that I've seen. Anyway, she also plays at the $100 min Black Jack table and buys into the Poker game with black chips. She's also a very generous tipper. |

I'm not a snob and I'm not sure that I exactly feel bad. I was very surprised. You see someone in a certain setting and your mind fills in the blanks. I guess what I'm saying is that I had a completely wrong "read" on her, as did everyone else on the boat. I'm not a professional poker player and don't even spend any of the money I win...just add it to my BR. I play for the competition aspect of poker, and the way you measure your success is in terms of money won or lost. Maybe I'm a hypocrate in that I like to win, but don't want to think about where the money comes from. |
Re: Wealthy ATM, or so I thought
I've known, personally, Asian and Hispanic immigrants who started businesses here. They work their butts off. They make sacrifices like I've never seen Native Born USA citizens willing to do. They take care of their families. And everyone of them has done well.
It's very possible this lady owns the restaurant and can more than afford her time in a casino. I'm sure you meant no "ethnic aspersion." I didn't read it that way. But, I do see the possibility of an "assumption" on your part. It's easy to stereotype. Hell, if stereotypes didn't behave the way they do we'd have no basis for the stereotype. This isn't a flame or sarcasm. I just felt like putting my .02 in the pot. |
Re: Wealthy ATM, or so I thought
My post had nothing to do with stereotypes and I don't know why I even mentioned her ethnicity. She doesn't own that particular restaurant, as I know the owners. What I was trying to convey was that she was like a celebrity on the boat, throwing money around like a millionaire, and looking the part as well. Seeing her in a waitress uniform, surprised me. (even though I have to admit, she still looked pretty good)

Re: Wealthy ATM, or so I thought
Outside chance that this is the situation:
There are/were quite a few middle aged female players in the mid limit games at Commerce. Some of these also work as dealers. Thing is, all are horrible players. Their husbands are wealthy, but got tired of financing them losing $10K-50K per year. So they told them they could only continue to play if they financed their gambling themselves. |
