Winning Stats question ...

Hi ,

I assume this was asked before , but i could not find the place that explains this simple !

I am reading some poker articels and I see all writers, when refering to winning player say he makes about 3 - 5BB an hour.

what is considered to be an avarage win rate of a solid winner for 5/10 limit online poker game ?

one more question is bankroll related , when do you decide to move up from 5/10 to 10/20 or higher, what should be the BB/bankroll ratio (suggested ratio)?

thanks ,

No-one wins 3-5 BB per hour on one table of limit, in the long run. This equates to 5-8 BB/100 at a full online table. A good player can make 2-3BB/100, so 1.2-1.8 BB/hr/table.

Try the search function - there are loads of posts on win rates and bankroll.

Suggested bankroll varies between 300 and 500 BB, depending on perception of risk.

We usually talk aobut winrate in terms of 100 hands not per hour. 2bb/100 is considered a reasonably good winrate.

Your bankroll should be approximately 300-500BB's for any given level. This is to ensure you can play through a 100-200 BB swing if/when it occurs.

When I had Poker Edge I looked at every person on every table at Party 3/6 one night. I compiled about 50 players with 10,000 or more hands played. Their combined win rate was 0.50BB/100.

of the 50 players about 8% were above 2.00BB/100.

Now this is 3/6 but from what I saw 2BB/100 is the 1st goal.

Anything greater then 2BB/100 and you're talking about a good player. With THAT said and I REALLY don't want this to sound like a brag because I DO NOT consider myself a good player (average I'd say). But I'm a 2.34BB/100 in 2/4 to 3/6 so I think it all depends on WHO you are playing against.

In my strikes into 5/10 and using Poker Edge (rest in peace) the players in 5/10 are basically the same as in 3/6. I think the only difference is size of the bankroll.

BTW - I saw more then a few 1/2 and 2/4 players losing 15BB/100 with over 5000 hands played. It was sad.

I think saying that anything above 2 BB/100 indicates a good player is misleading. Anything above 0 BB/100 indicates a good player. Numbers above that simply rank levels of goodness, and are indicative of potential ability to beat games at higher levels.

But I think to say someone beating 3/6 at 1.5 BB/100 or something is "not a good player" is stupid. They have room to improve, but then again, we all do. That same player could probably beat 2/4 at 2.2 BB/100 or something like that.

Based on webster's stats, you had to be in the 92 percentile to be making 2BB. As I recall, you need to be in the top third just to break even.

IMO, a lot of people on this forum are too fixated on win rates, as opposed to just trying to get better. The appropriate "winning stats question"s, again IMO, have to do with VPIP, PFR%, PFA, blind defense and attack, etc, etc, and nothing to do with win rate.
