A No-Shuffle home game? Would this work?
 

Shuffling is time consuming. Shuffling machines don't work well enough. Using the same deck or two allows for marking or crimping cards. Allowing players to shuffle invites cheating.

So..what if I bought about 200 decks of cards and pre-shuffled them, put them back in their boxes, and made up some system which randomizes when a deck gets used (picking it out of a hat or something)? After a deck is used once, it is set aside, and another deck is randomly chosen.

I think the home game format which would see the biggest benefit from this kind of system would be single-table tournaments. You'd be able to get in more hands since no time is spent shuffling. Or you could set the blind structure up in such a way that the levels change every so many decks/hands (like 20 or so).

Just a random idea I had while trying to sleep.

Any downsides besides having to procure hundreds of decks of cards? This could be done cheaply with Bicycle or Bee cards.

Anyone willing to try this and report the results?

Why not just have 2 decks and the SB shuffles the second deck while the hand is in play? Then in theory there won't be any extra time spent shuffling. The system you're talking about sounds cumbersome, expensive and time consuming at best, and will only increase concerns about cheating (maybe not for you, but certainly for other players).

If you really cared enough to shuffle 200 decks before your game why not spend the money on a good shuffling machine?

Switch to three card brag, in brag the muck is simply gathered to the bottom of the stub and the next hand is dealt off the top. Only if the hand is won with a 'prial' (3 of a kind) is the deck ever shuffled. Not to mention that 3 card brag is the most insane bluffing action game ever!

meh.

here's how we do it.

one perma dealer (hold 'em tables are hard to deal from the ends, so one person is a dealer, and he sits in the middle).

dealer tosses the used deck to any random person to shuffle. once shuffled, they place the cut card on top, and give to dealer.

when ready to deal the next hand, the deck is placed on the table, as is the cut card, person to the right of the dealer takes top half, places on cut card, then dealer takes other half and places on top.

it's quick and easy, as long as someone trustworthy volunteers to deal for the duration.

If you're only paying $1 per deck of paper cards, you'll still save money in the long-run with a nice setup of KEMs or Copags. They're perty, too.

Someone runs bad, gets really unlucky against a 2-outer suckout. This someone finds out the host preshuffled the decks.

Someone pulls out a gun....
