Dealing with LAGs in a short-handed tournament situation
 

This guy CdnEarl has basically sucked out a dozen times, which made him the chip leader, and he will not fold for anything. I've seen him show down king high and worse for as much as 30% of his stack. I genuinely thought that he'd go away if I stayed in the hand, since he had just limped UTG and I made it 2400 to go. Does anybody make this call here, or should I have pushed PF since the LAG is to my left?

If you're looking to isolate the short stack all in, push.

5 handed with those stacks.. Is this even an MTT?

especially with a lag guy like that to act after you.. if you play this hand, push... (and i like playing this hand)

It's one of the 'Stars 10+1, 27 person tournaments. I play those a lot during the week because I don't have the time for large MTTs.

no offense, but you have a lot to learn. but i admire your sense of at least trying to learn by taking our beratings without freaking out.

Push All In, he would likely call you anyways since he "commited" himself by limping. This way he can't outplay you.

If this was me, I would fold 55 in this situation. I would look for spots where the LAG isn't commited to steal/isolate. Even with these huge blinds I look to limp with the LAG with trash such as QT, J9. Often times you get to double up off monsters like 2nd pair.

It also semi-likely that the all in guy has you in a big way with higher pocket. If he doesn't, you're still only a slight favorite

I play these a lot lately too, its a way to practice MTT-ish strategy without the time commmittement. They fill up pretty quick, and I've done well.

also, on this hand, as others have said, I push to isolate the short stack all in.

I don't post much, but the way you played that makes me feel ill...

I fold, but if you're hell bent on playing then push, you've only got a pair of 5s so you want to be heads up with the short stack
