Was this a string bet?
 

I dont know where to post this, so move it if necessary.

The other night i was playing with a couple people in a NL holdem tournament and it was folded to me so I announced raise. I brought out the hand that was already holding chips and stacked them out to find that with those i was only raising 2x the BB, so i went back for more. At no point between there did i have even the slightest hesitation or try to get a tell, but this kid said it was a string bet and the kid running the game agreed and made me pull out my bet. Was this a string bet or not?

Yes, in a NL game this is a string raise, because you didn't announce an amount, and initially brought out enough chips to make a minimum raise. In NL or PL games, it's best to state the amount of your raise to avoid this. This post should probably go in the B&M forum or one of the tournament forums.

if you announce raise and the put out chips, you gotta put em all out at once or you could be called for it. but dont take crap from a bunch of jerks at a home game. they probably violate standard casino rules every hand and i bet your dont bark at them

Sounds like a typical string raise with non-nefarious intentions.

You can stack in a staging area, but once the chips move out, they're out, whether you did something to get a read or not. The whole point of the string raise rule is to preclude the possibility of impropriety, not to have a chance to litigate intent because it's much easier to have a clear rule than to piece together what was really going on.

anyone see the WSOP a couple weeks ago when a guy wanted to move all in with A5s, didn't say anything and put one of his 2 stacks in, then the other, and the dealer made him take back his second stack because he had made a string bet. Norman Chad commented on this, saying as long as you say "raise" you can count out your chips however you want.

Yes it's a string bet. You're lucky you didn't get capped for this.

I saw a guy string-bet once in AC, and he was found dead within 6 hours of the incident. "And I don't mean from old age."

I dont get it. Who killed him the dealer, a player, the TV host, his mom, or you the rail bird

if you announce raise you can go back as much as you want... if you announce raise you should have as much time as you want to count and put your chips in the middle.

but to clarify next time just announce the chips and they cant dispute anymore

B/C you say "Raise" and you can put some chips out and "gauge" your opponents reaction (if they look uneasy you can raise more or whatever.

If you say "Raise", then say the amount, you can put it out 1 stack at a time.
