Am I ahead or behind in this hand? Notice how this move works. I achieve both objectives simutaneuously, If I am behind I am keeping the pot as small as possible to ensure a showdown, but if I am in fact playing a smaller PP or overcards I am allowing him to bet off his stack.

Not really. Here you just want to keep the pot small.

I am talking about sizing my bets so my turn/river action end up being right.
