general question set vs 3 to a flush on flop

I have been in this situation a few times the last few weeks and i think i have been playing it wrong, what do you think?

ring game hero on the button
2-3 limpers
hero on the button with medium pair jj,1010 raises to 4xbb
bb calls, 1 limpers calls (no real reads on play style)
flop 3 of a suit (i have non of) but also gives me to set.
bb or limper raises the size of the pot

now i would think if he hit the flush he would want to raise less to keep me in hand so i rr 3x his bet one times i did this they called and then checked it to me and then raised the huge pot size bet on the river (no other of the flush suit came). ( i wimped out and folded)

Should I stick with my read and reraise more on the flop or just fold on the flop?
