Another \"who plays like this\" post. hand from tunica
John Juanda raises to $23,000 preflop, and Bobby Law calls. The flop comes 10h-7d-5h, and both players check. The turn card is the 8d, Juanda bets $30,000, and Law calls. The river card pairs the board with the 10c, and both players check. Juanda shows A-K (ace high), but Law has pocket jacks to win the pot.

I don't see anything particularly strange about this hand.

No bets/raises w/ the overpair.
Why is Law being so passive? Maybe b/c Juanda is so aggressive? |
Re: Another \"who plays like this\" post. hand from tunica
Juanda is very difficult to play against in my limited experience. For mere mortals like me (and presumably Law--don't know anything about him) I think keeping the pot small is a pretty wise move.
Juanda raised utg. What are you gonna do when you raise his flop bet and he puts you to a decision by shoving in? It's gonna be extremely tough to call with JJ and you could easily be folding the best hand. The turn is a decent spot for a bet after Juanda checks and checking obviously gives John a chance to catch up, so it's risky, but I think Law basically played this hand well. Edit: Re-reading the action, I see that Juanda was not necessarily utg. |
