Party skins with new update of Zonealarm - Anyone else?
A couple days ago, I updated my firewall (zonealarm).
Now when starting up a party skin, I get a warning pop-up that the app. is trying to track mouse movements, and would I like to prevent it from doing so? I figure why not. Party probably does enough snooping (and I'm not running pokeredge or other banned software). The only noticable effect is that I can no longer chat. I see others chat, but mine is blocked. Strange? |

please post back if you have any problems because of that.

They might use mouse movements to generate random data in order to make sure the dealing of cards is truly random.
Just a hunch... |

B) Does OP now have the same problem with ZoneAlarm and PokerStars? [/ QUOTE ] I haven't played stars since the upgrade. I'll report back when/if I do. |

A) Do you have a reference for this (not that I don't believe you, just interested)? [/ QUOTE ] http://www.pokerstars.com/security.html which says in part: --Quote-- SHUFFLE "Anyone who considers arithmetic methods of producing random digits is, of course, in a state of sin." - John von Neumann, 1951 We understand that a use of a fair and unpredictable shuffle algorithm is critical to our software. To ensure this and avoid major problems described in [2], we are using two independent sources of truly random data: * user input, including summary of mouse movements and events timing, collected from client software * true hardware random number generator developed by Intel [3], which uses thermal noise as an entropy source Each of these sources itself generates enough entropy to ensure a fair and unpredictable shuffle. --Unquote-- |
