Rounders Writer to attend STTF-HUC

As per Lacky's request, I will post this as separate STTF-HUC news:

My roommate in college, Jeff Grosso aka Creeper, wrote a screenplay called "The Shell Game." It was a poker movie containing about 50% of the interesting poker related pearls in Rounders. There was even a character named Worm.

Anyways, Creeper took the case to court claiming that Miramax stole the movie from him. It went all the way to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and he won.

It was a landmark case for intellecutal property law and changed the way studios treat screenwriters and their scripts.

The case is being appealed by Miramax now and may end up in the Supreme Court... so Creeper hasn't seen a penny.

You can google Grosso v. Miramax to read about it if you are interested.

So anyways... the guy that really wrote Rounders will be at the Labor Day tournament.

He likes to think that he is single-handedly responsible for the growth of poker. At the WSOP this year, whenever we would walk into the tournament room with a bajillion people playing poker, he would hold his arms out and say "you see this... I did this."

interesting case...thx for the link. Unfortunetly for your friend, it will be awhile before he gets any money, if he gets any. He'll have to win or settle the implied breach of contract claim after these appeals are over (assuming they are not overturned by the en banc 9th Circuit and yada yada yada...)

So, were you the inspiration for Worm?

For your contacts and achievements, your officially the man.

Good luck to your buddy too - ive officially gone past having no opinion on rounders to disliking it now.

John Malkovitch is cool though, he gets a pass.

ps, citanul just passes you as the man now, but its close

Is he joking when he says that? If not that's incredibly arrogant...

I think he means it as a joke.

In many ways its correct however. Rounders and Moneymaker are what started the poker explosion, no two ways about it.

Was ESPN's actions contributory or reactionary?

I always figured the latter, but i dont live in america, never seen ESPN (bar the odd late night highlights of baseball or summit) and so dont know.

Wasn't WPT on Travel channel the first to have hole cams? Thus making it a watchable sport.
