J9 in the SB. AA98 board.

Button is very loose. No telling what he'd call with here. The other two players are reasonable.

With three callers on the flop, I like the check/fold. Small stakes players love to play an ace and slowplay any chance they get. Plus, with the straight and flush draws, plus overs to your pair, your hand is vunerable. Pot is small, nice fold.

I'd rather bet fold.

why the flop bet with a turn check? bet the flop, bet the turn.

This hand is perfectly played.

I've found one area of resent growth in my game comes in realizing when calls clearly demonstrate that my hand is no good.

Against a single call, bet-folding the turn might be correct. But it is simply way too unlikely that between three callers on this board one of them doesn't at least have an A, a better 9, or a pair like TT (with the probability someone has an A being like 80% or better).

Small stakes players will often never raise an A here, and so calls on a board like this are very scary. Three players can't all have flush draws.

Well, it's a mid-limit hand, but otherwise I concur.

I was going to say bet the turn, but I read some of the responses. Its true all 3 of them can't have an Ace often enough to make betting here profitable. Right?

Your statement is confusing.

Heh, I tried to be too terse. One of the three callers will have an Ace too often to make betting the turn wrong.
