Standard line w/ 77?

Just wanted a line check here, comments and criticisms are always welcome

Party 3/6 10 handed.

MP3 player (typical TAG after about ~100 hands) opens in MP3. Loose/Passive fish cold calls on the button and I call one more bet in the BB with 77o.

Flop is 2d8s9c (6.33 SB). I bet, TAG raises, fish folds, I call.

Turn is 9d (~5BB). I bet, TAG pauses ... then raises, I fold.

Standard?

This looks fine to me.

His turn raise is certainly a bit strange, it might be a semibluff with AK or AQ if he correctly puts you on a pocket pair. If he is capable of folding those hands to a threebet here it might be worth considering.

I find it kind of strange that he would raise with a big pair here when you just called preflop. He can't put you on JJ-KK, and you could easily hold a 9. So I wonder why he would give you so much action with a hand like KK-AA. So he might be folding to a threebet here, but it's probably not profitable to try.

Does anybody think 3-betting the flop has any merit?

I figure if villain caps we can safely fold the turn. We could also safely fold if villain raises the turn after calling our 3-bet.

Also, if villain just calls the 3-bet, we can bet a non A/K turn fairly confidently that we are ahead.

One reason I don't like the donk so much is because I feel like AK would raise the turn and push us off the best hand too much for my liking.

But I figure things a lot, and am usually wrong. Opinions?

I agree with Jake, I like 3-betting the flop, mainly to see where you are at for the rest of the hand. If he caps, fold the turn unimproved. If he calls then leads out the turn I think you should fold unimproved. I like betting any non A/K card on the turn too. I guess you could c/r the flop if you were a baller, and you would certainly take the pot when the second 9 pops out on the turn and you bet/raise again.

Does anyone like not betting this flop? or am i just weak tight?

i think i would check/call the flop and check/call the turn if the fish folds, and bet the river? (if i never improve)

Is there a 77s????

I like 3 betting the flop because too many good TAGs here will raise w/ big unimproved overs. If capped, check/ fold turn unimproved.

3-beting to see 'where your at' will cost you a lot of money.

I disagree with 3-betting the flop, I disagree with checking the flop, and I disagree with bet/calling it. I think it's a bet/fold.

Re: Standard line w/ 77?

If you look at the lines I suggested, the 3-betting here could save you money as opposed to the calling down. You are 3 betting at the smaller limit costing you 1 more BB total, as opposed to calling down 2 BB.

Bet/fold this flop? Against a PFR here I can't get any better here than this flop. What range of hands does he raise this flop? based off position it's pretty expansive to say the least.
