Cheap Airline Tickets

Need to find relatively cheap airline tickets last minute (2 weeks from now on a Thursday 8/18, return Monday). I've checked all the major sites...anyone know of an alternative way to get a discount/cheaper tickets. Gonna cost me over $500 for a round trip flight. Granted, it's a long flight...but I'm hoping to find a significantly cheaper deal.

Do you have to show a death certificate for a bereavement fare? I'd think not, since you obviously aren't in the same city as the deceased, but maybe they charge full price and discount later.

I've never understood how PriceLine actually works. I realize you name your own price, but how does the rest of it work? I assume they just throw the numbers to the airlines and if they accept it, you get it/get charged? Can you pick a time of day to depart?
