With 6 outs, assuming you're even behind, seems like a clear call. I'm not sure I'd bet river if checked to though. I'd feel real newbie if he check raised me there. But yeah, there's no reason to give him credit for an 8. He might have a low pair and thinks you missed the flop with 2 overcards.
