Does anyone know anything?

Why?

I answer other to all the above. Unless we are going to allow approximations.

If so, then I would consider the USSR and Maoist China communist. The US and UK are too mixed to classify.

I guess that was part of the reason I posted this poll. So many people on here seem to throw these words around without at all thinking about there practical applications. As if realizing the value of things like income tax and the minimum wage makes you some sort of insane pinko anti-capitalist bastard.

Basically I think it is funny when people use words like liberal and socialist as slurs when the Labour Party of GB (one of our staunchest allies, and a favorite of GWB) calls itself socialist.

They may call themselves socialist but no one who isn't mentally unstable believes that.

I'm having a debate with someone about the min wage. You are a pinko anti-capitalist if you support it. Only because its probably on of the stupidest policies ever enacted. It doesn't even achieve the objective its supposed too.

Taxes are a value judgement. Do you want a bigger pie or a more evenly divided pie. What is the optimal point on the laffer curve. Etc. Those are argueable.

However, min wage proponents are unabashidly stupid. I don't think they should be allowed to vote because thier too retarded.

Stupid is not = pinko anti-capitalist, which doesn't mean that pinko-anti capitalists can't be stupid, just that the two aren't synonyms - and when you use them as synonyms, I think you're proving the OPs point.

I think the 'American right' is the biggest offender here. It seems many right wing posters label you lefty or communist if you claim capitalism isn't 100% perfect.

Being an English Conservative, I can't believe how some posters will automatically defend big business, however bad their conduct. It seems many get too caught up in the ideology, pure capitalism must be defended at all costs.

No political ideology will ever be the most effective way of solving ALL problems that may arise. Straying slightly from your general idoelogy shows an ability to think a situation through as opposed to deciding on your point of view before hand, then trying to 'prove' that you're correct.

I was trying to make the greater point that people tend to overlook the nuances of language when trying to prove some politically charged point. For example lumping together every nation or person that may have some support for socialism or communism, and presenting that as evil.

Too often this forum turns into psuedo-intellectual McCarthyism with posters completely dismissing ideas with useless invective. Seriously, no matter how right wing you are you should be able to comprehend the possibility that some people might see the value of the minimum wage.

A thought... in a free market not everyone has equal power, yet most modern societies propagate equality as a virtue. Is everything they do to reconcile that situation socialist?
