Helmuth and Ferguson discuss career profits....

Phil Helmuth: How much have you made in your career Chris Ferguson?
Chris: Uhh lets not talk about that. I'll just say that 2 people tonight are making more than what ive made in my entire career.
Phil: Yeah man i know what you mean... ive banked about 8.5 million over my career and someones making close to that in one night.

Anyone else surprised by this? I thought these two woulda made more than that... are the players in the big games numbers much bigger than this? Id have to assume they are.. i doubt ivey has only made 8.5 million in his career. Todd brunson made almost this amount just off andy beale.

brunson BEAT andy beal for more, but his profit in that game was chopped since he was playing with a share of all the pros money.

anyway, hellmuth and ferguson dont play cash games. they only play tournaments (cept on the sites they rep). and you're making it seem like $8 million isn't a lot for a poker player.

I wouldn't doubt that Hellmuth was "forgetting" to subtract the buy-ins.

I don't know about Phil Ivey . He may have made more than 8 million because Lederer always refers to him as the best player in the world but the other guys probably haven't. If you are playing in the million dollar games, it doesn't necessarily mean you've made a boat load. Your edge is going to be a lot smaller since you are playing against good players so you have to subtract the times that you lose, too.

I know 8.5 million is alot of money to anyone but chris ferguson and helmuth being two of the best tournament players ever.. and having played for many years, you'd think they've made more than that. Hell.. helmuth won 500k alone just from the heads up tourney on NBC I believe. But a good point was brought up that cash game players will be banking more money than tourney. I mean if the big game is 4k/8k (i believe).. a standard buyin (100x the bb) could be about 800k which in itself is close to a million, so winning just a few buy ins would be close to what Chris is implying his life time winnings are? Interesting..

I thought Phil said 4.5 million, but I have been listening for far too long, and this might go on til 10am the way these guys are trading chips.
