Roy Williams

Just heard this on the radio on the way home from work.
Roy Williams approved payments to players after graduating or exhausting eligibility at Kansas.

I haven't heard too many details yet, but this LINK says it is a violation of NCAA rules.

Anyone hear anything else on it?

I haven't heard anything about it yet, but I am sure I will.

I really believe this kind of thing goes on all the time.

Re: Roy Williams

How does this:

[ QUOTE ]
Roy Williams violated NCAA rules when he was the basketball coach at Kansas, approving payments to players who had used up their eligibility, the school said Friday.

After conducting an internal review, the school said Williams -- preparing for his third season at national champion North Carolina -- approved payments to graduating players and other Jayhawk players who had exhausted their eligibility.

[/ QUOTE ]

only result in this:

[ QUOTE ]
The university, which put its athletic department on probation for two years, said the violations wouldn't carry any television or postseason sanctions, but would result in a reduction of scholarships in the football and women's basketball programs.

The men's basketball violation will be addressed through extra education about the rules regarding gifts. No other sanctions against the program are planned.

[/ QUOTE ]

well, I *know* how/why, but this is silly unless the article misrepresents the focus of the infractions. Men's b-ball cheats, so football and women's baskeball gets punished while men's b-ball gets a lecture?
