PT and the Internet? (LC)

I just installed a new firewall last night. This afternoon I opened up PT, and noticed that it tried to access the internet. I unplugged the ethernet cable from my laptop and tried to open PT and it gave me an error message. My question is, why does PT need to access the internet to work? If the database is already on the computer, why does it have to connect?

Are you using PostgreSQL? That requires connecting to the "internet" but it's actually connecting to localhost.
