10 handed. Good player in UTG open raises, folded to me is sb. I call with JJ. BB folds. Flop comes KK4 2 diamonds. I bet, UTG raises, I fold. Comments?

Especially if you do similar things with any frequency, this bet/fold on the flop is god awful. You haven't represented a very strong hand and your opponent is likely raising with any two cards he raised preflop. If you're willing to fold your jacks to this little pressure postflop you'd be better off mucking them immediatly.
I'd also 3bet preflop, because the BB coming along with 1 random overcard makes your hand much worse, but that mistake isn't nearly so bad.

Thanks for the advise. I've got some thinking to do about this and similiar situations. 3 betting preflop is certainly best. Then I'm better informed on the flop in addition to probably getting the BB to fold. What the $%$&(&^ was I thinking [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

that line doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me. i dont mind the flat call preflop, but i think check-calling the whole way maybe with a value fold on the turn or river should a Q or A fall is best.

Checkfolding at any point seems weak. He could easily be valuebetting TT or less on a board of KKxA after you checkcall the flop.

The fact that he raised your bet means he wants you to go away. I would go for a C/R and call down from there.

If you are so worried about the UTG's hand strength that you are cold calling, you should fold preflop. If he's so tight he's playing AK/AQ/JJ+ 95% of the time, why get involved unless his play gives away his hand on an early street every time yet yours does not to him.
