Would you show?
PokerStars 1/2 Hold'em (10 handed) converter
CO is a light raiser, average aggression postflop. Complete/capping BB is 6% pfr, but extremely passive postflop - loves to just call down. Is there any other way you play this? And since I got robbed of a showdown, should I show it? BTW this was a mix it up play in my third orbit of a tighty stars game - table VP$IP 24%. Preflop: Hero is MP2 with X X. UTG calls, 3 folds, Hero calls, MP3 calls, CO raises, 2 folds, BB calls, UTG calls, Hero 3-bets, MP3 folds, CO calls, BB caps, UTG calls, Hero calls, CO calls. Flop: (18.50 SB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 players) BB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets, CO calls, BB calls, UTG calls. Turn: (11.25 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 players) BB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets, CO folds, BB calls, UTG calls. Re: Would you show?
Never.
Insight into the thought processes of other players is a valued commodity. I am not sure that it is a good idea to give away that information. BTW, ni han sir. |
Re: Would you show?
Preflop is strange, but you said you were mixing it up so OK...
I would normally say that it's never a good idea to showdown your hands. But, if there was ever a time to do it, this is probably it. You'd love for these guys to think you have suited connectors every time you 3-bet. |
Re: Would you show?
I only show my hands at 2+2 tables.
The magnitude of the mistake of always mucking is overwhelmingly dwarfed by the mistake of showing too many hands, or showing the wrong hands. About the only time I would consider showing off the top of my head is if I've been blind stealing a lot recently. It's probably +EV to flash QQ, AK, KQ occasionally, and such when you get dealt those in LP and everyone folds to you. You might get away with more steals in the future. On the river, if the fish don't call, the fish don't see. Edit: Upon reviewing your preflop play, I would like to declare that it is terrible. Your LRR looks to me to be worse than limping 72o UTG. |
Re: Would you show?
I also like to show my big hands the odd time it's folded to me in the BB.
If you're going to mix your play up with 89s (and let me just say that based on my own experience in microlimit games, mixing your play up is a waste of time as most players won't stay long enough for it to matter, and the ones who do probably won't notice), just raise in the first place. It's a tight table, you're 2nd in from MP2, go ahead and try to buy the button & maybe a cheap check/fold on the flop from UTG. The limp/reraise was just goofy for goofy's sake. Personally, I'd be relieved that I didn't have to show this one down & still won a good sized pot. Showing the hand wouldn't even be a consideration. |

The limp/reraise was just goofy for goofy's sake. [/ QUOTE ] Funny because goofy is the mood I am in today...and it seems I play better/more aggressive poker when I am in this mood. Must have been the 14-hour workday. I did not show and continued to play aggressively at this table, taking down 42BB in 100 hands. Too bad I need sleep. Thanks for the advice, Robert. |
Re: Would you show?
just because they are tight, doesn't mean they really think or are good, so uh mixing it up isn't a good idea against the weaktighties
|
Re: Would you show?
god preflop sucks - i think this is really bad (even for a mixing-it-up). i'd rather see you raise 84s utg than this
and don't show cards ever - unless you want to show good stealing cards |
