what is datamining?

just what the title says. I read FAQ and didn't seem to find any info on this. I am relatively new to PT and Playerview, so help would be appreciated.

Re: what is datamining?

if you open four tables and set poker tracker to auto import hands, it will add the observed hands to your database. meaning, you can get more data on your opponents without actually sitting down and playing.

Re: what is datamining?

"Data mining" is the process of examining large amounts of data (typically stored in a databased termed a "warehouse") to look for, well, anything interesting.

Unfortunately, when people use the term around here they're referring to the collection and collation of hand history data (typically at tables they're not currently sitting at), rather than the actual analysis of the histories. Only the analysis is "mining"; the rest is just collecting data.

It's kinda like calling grilling a hamburger "eating dinner." The implication is there that it'll follow, but they're different acts.
