Opening Argument

The game is going down. Nine seats at the table, we have eight players. All sit and the dealer spreads the cards to cut for the button. The player in seat 6, always affable, picks an ace. The dealer says, "I didn't say to pick yet." Seat 6 says, "So what? I've picked." The other players all pick and the dealer insists she wasn't yet told it's OK to cut for the button. The floorman comes over and says pick again. We're all incredulous.

So we pick again and this time seat 7 picks an ace. Seat 6 is upset that he was going to get the button but now he will be in the cut-off. Seat 5 is empty. Seat 7 now says he wants seat 5 and takes the dealer button with him to seat 5. Now seat 6 is really upset: he has gone from having the button, to being in the cutoff, to being the small blind.

The floorman, incredibly, rules seat 7 can move to seat 5 with the dealer button and seat 6 must post his small blind. Seat 6 goes ballistic and demands a supervisor. I'm not sure what happened then as I went to relate the goings-on to an acquaintance away from the table, but when I got back he had posted his small blind. It took about 5 minutes to sort it out. And we hadn't played a hand yet.

Bad enough, right?

Seat 6 gets pocket kings his first hand in the small blind.

And finishes second.

Ouch . . .

I wish I could say, "Unbelievable". But in the sorry era of cardroom management in which we find ourselves, it is sadly far too believable.

Nothing. As long as you don't get KK and finish second

Re: Opening Argument

They let the players pick their own cards? That's dumb. (Although I guess it gives them one less reason to bitch at the dealer)

Yeah, they spread the deck and everyone picks themselves.

Hey Andy,

Funny story yet again. Seriously though, that dealer is absolutely retarded. I haven't told you you can draw for the Button yet? Shut. The [censored]. Up. You spread, they drew. Now wash, shuffle, cut, and deal some freaking cards. The only thing more retarded is that the floor actually sided with the dealer and created a bad situation for everybody involved instead of making a fair decision that would've allowed the game to run smoothly and quickly and left the customers happy.
