Was I wrong to bluff to induce a bluff?

My second hand with this villain; no read whatsoever.

PokerStars 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (10 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is Button with K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">5 folds</font>, MP3 calls, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, MP3 calls.

Flop: (5.40 SB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
MP3 checks, Hero checks.

Turn: (2.70 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">MP3 bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>...

If he had a queen, I'm drawing dead. I also know that a slowplay is likely; I checked the flop to see if I can induce a bluff on his part. He did, and I'm responding to what may be his bluff with my own bluff. I fully intend to fold if I'm reraised, but was this line a bad idea?

So, you're saying that he'll fold all the hands you beat, and 3-bet all the hands that are ahead? Sounds like a pretty bad raise to me.

OK, there's an off chance he'll fold a lower pocket pair, but... I also bet that flop.

That's a pretty awesome flop for you. Don't dish out free cards to this guy.

Inducing a bluff is good when you actually have a hand. Try to steal the pot on the flop. Don't invest any more money on later streets to win such a small pot. Let the guy bluff. Let him believe that he can bluff you and next time that you have something and the pot is decent, take his money.

I've used this strategy and done it has taken down alot of pots for me, but you can't just do it to anyone. Your read is whats key here. First you have to ask yourself, is he the type of player that calls down with Ace high? If so, then I would use this strategy as your best chance to get him off. But if hes a player that will fold if he misses, there is no need to give him a free card that could help him. Table image and read are essential.

So much for being clever then. Is there some general guidelines I can use when considering when to bet the flop, apart from "always"? From what I've read here, I'm pretty weak/tight for having a flop AF lower than 50 or so.

Anyway, the Villain folded here. Hooray!
