Using a 2nd monitor with Dell Inspiron 6000??

Any of you folks know how to plug a monitor into an Inspiron 6000 and use both screens simultaneously? I assumed all that had to be done was plugging it in. Does the computer need to be off when this occurs?

2nd quick question. Should a technical noob like me be nervous at all about installing a memory upgrade? just bought one from Kingston, and while I have found instructions and glanced at them, I'm worried about screwing things up. Should I find someone who knows what they're doing to install my memory?

Please excuse my complete ignorance.

Thanks,

JoS

Go to control panel -> appearance and themes -> display -> settings. Click on second monitor and then extend desktop. Adjust your resolution and and refresh rate for second monitor and you're good to go. Alternatively, you can press the Fn key and F8 (blue buttons) to switch between lcd, dual monitor, or external monitor.

I never did the memory upgrade before but I assume you just have to open it up and stick it in. Can't be too hard.
