10/20 NL: viva las vegas!

So i went on a trip to vegas with my buddies the instant i finished my dreaded last final two weeks ago; yes im only 20. there was a very interesting hand i observed while sitting 10/20 NL at the bellagio, thought it might spark some discussion (also feel free to discuss the fact that i played at the mirage, MGM, bellagio, and the wynn and never got carded lol!)

Table has been playing rather donktastic, but the two key players in this hand are both clearly tight aggressive, the kind you need probably fully adequate hand values to tangle with, table is full.

EP raiser makes it $80 to go, he just sat down. One cold caller, this is pretty standard, then the small blind makes it $280 straight. Big blind thinks for awhile and then cold calls. Two others fold, pot is HU. SB is about 30, calm and collected, BB is a very observant, intelligent, 23 year old. They both are sitting with between 6-7 thousand.

Flop is: 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

SB bets $500, Young Guy thinks for awhile and then smooth calls.

TURN: 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

SB bets $1000, BB agonizes for about a minute and then smooth calls.

RIVER: is a complete brick, 3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] or something

SB bets $2,000. Young Guy can't decide what to do and finally open folds KK .

Now I'm looking at the SB the entire time trying to figure out if he really has the goods, he doesnt seem agitated or excited, chest is rising and falling smoothly, slowly. My friendly comrade to my left makes a comment that its AA or hes bluffing. I wonder if QQ or KK is totally out of the picture. Hand was very very exciting to watch and the SB did in fact expose his hand. BB, young guy, obviously made some fundamental errors to be calling the turn and folding the river.

What was the hand?!?

27o? Who knows? SB would have to be mad to bluff the river here though, so surely its safe to conclude he has KK destroyed.

that was obviously the young bb with KK's reasoning

however what if sb might consider bb's reasoning?

remember these are very good players! definitely top of the field i experienced in vegas.

Well, quite. Then its read dependent. BB didnt help his cause by all that genuine agonising either. Perhaps SB had a read on the original cold caller and raised to squeeze out new-pfr with a marginal hand that got lucky, BB calling certainly wasnt part of the original plan.

Or perhaps he had KK too, occums razor and all that.

Edit: I'm thinking of tripping to vegas late july in my last summer before my job starts in sept. I'm 21 but its a long way from the uk ! Where did you stay/any recommendations? My sisters are trying to persuade me to take them along, not convinced about the idea.

Re: 10/20 NL: viva las vegas!

this should be a a call with KK....

because a good player *rarely* bets the river here with AA here.

Re: 10/20 NL: viva las vegas!

why would you not bet the river here with AA?

that makes absolutely no sense based upon preflop action and the board

bb obviously has a monster pair

uggh some of the things you guys post with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY really grate on me
