Barry Bonds

An anecdote from a new book:

Here's an excerpt from Kittle's book, describing how he approached Bonds with a couple of Bonds' game-worn San Francisco Giants road jerseys, asking him to autograph them for an auction for Kittle's charity for children with cancer:

I walked up to Bonds at his locker in the Wrigley Field visitors' clubhouse, introduced myself and said, "Barry, if you sign these, they'll bring in a lot of money for kids who need help."

Bonds stood up, looked me in the eye and said, "I don't sign for white people."

I said, "White guys aren't the only ones who get cancer," but Bonds had turned his back on me and walked out of the clubhouse.

Re: Barry Bonds

So, the biggest superstar in the league is overtly racist to a former player and it takes 12 years to get out?

This just in: Barry Bonds is STILL a giant douche. And possibly a turd sandwich.

12 years to get out? Everyone knows Bonds is an ass, and a generally unpleasant person. This is not news, and there is nothing very interesting about the original post.

Re: Barry Bonds

I saw Bonds at Hooters during spring training in '91 in Tempe. The place was not overly crowded and since he was my favorite player, I was probably the first to notice him walk in. He was with his agent at the time. I left them alone for about 15 minutes and then decided it might be my only opportunity to talk with him. I borrowed a sheet of paper the waitresses take orders on and got Bonds to sign it. I had no problems at all. I think because he enjoys as much privacy away from the media as possible, they show him in a negative light. He still remains my favorite player. Many here will say the opposite. I don't care. I wont change your opinion...just like you wont change mine. The man is simply amazing.

Oh, and I don't believe one word from that book either.

*Edit to say I am white.

Bonds stood up, looked me in the eye and said, "I don't sign for white people." If lightning hits me today, I will swear those were his exact words. Matt Williams and other Giants were in the room and they heard what Bonds said.

I stood there for a minute, and the veins in my neck were popping. I've only been that mad a few times in my life. I was going to beat the (heck) out of him, really kick his (butt), but Williams saw what was happening, so he came over and got between us. Matt said, "Ron, that's just the way he is."

I said, "White guys aren't the only ones who get cancer," but Bonds had turned his back on me and walked out of the clubhouse. Somebody must have run in and alerted Dusty Baker, who was the manager of the Giants then

If its B.S. we will find out soon enough from the "witnesses."

I think everyone is looking past the real issue here.

Ron Kittle thinks enough of his stature in this world of ours to write a book about himself? He was a poor man's Rob Deer. Nobody cares Ron.

Pure anecdotal evidence (read: worthless).

Barry Bonds's freakishly inflated melon, on the other hand...

Everyone "knows" Bonds is an ass. However, I did not hear many "racist" charges 12 years ago.

Maybe the anedcote is true. I quesiton the timing of it.
