What does LAG mean?

I've seen the term "LAG" or "lagy" used in various forums, and I'd like to know what it means. It's used to describe a type of player. Could someone help me out? I tried searching in the beginner forums, but even here it seems to be implied that it's a well-known term.

Thanks in advance.

Check the FAQ below for more abbreviations.

Loose/aggressive players play too many hands (loose), betting and raising liberally (aggressive). These are great players to have in a game, but you can find your stack fluctuating wildly.

Its a much more difficult style to play but certain pros can use it to great success(Daniel Negreanu, Gus Hansen, Tuan Le) but you have to risk a lot of chips and make good reads on other people. One of the main benefits is that when you actually have a big hand youre more likely to get paid off since people know you play so many marginal hands.

Generally, this is not a great style to play in lower limit games where people constantly overplay their hands, rarely fold, and you have no problem getting action when you have big hands.
