is this angle shoot inappropriate?

im in a small stakes MTT home game. i only know the host who was not at my table.

3 to the flop. im in the SB:
checked to the LP who makes a stab. i think he's weak and i have 4 to the str8 and want to see another card or 2. im worried about the player in between b/c though he never raises, he calls with any piece or draw if there is no one acting strongly. anyway, i hold my call in one hand and a stack of chips in the other, i say "call and raise $2k". they inform me that i can only call since i announce call. this is what im hoping for.
the turn doesnt help me so i check, hoping they think i intend to check raise. it checks around. the river doesnt help me so i make a bet that looks like i want a call. they fold.

is this immoral, unethical or just plain uncool in anyway?

seems ok to me.

i dont think i really want a discussion of whether i could have raised or just called instead of this angle play. i'm leaving out alot for the sake of brevity.

thanks.

By calling it an angle shoot you already know the answer.

I think it's great. This is no worse than threateningly stacking your chips while your opponent is considering his move.

you may be giving me too much credit here. i thought that was merely what these maneuvers were called, not a disparaging term.

It is what those maneuvers are called and they are generally frowned upon. Particuarly in a home gmae you do not want to do anything that might be considered offensive by anyone as you might not be invited back. In a casino all rulings go against (or should with competant floor) the angler shooter because a very common source of a gaming irregularity that requires to floor is an angleshooter has caused some confusion, so he is to bear the penalty of a decision (usually by the nature of a decision one player is made happy and one player is made upset).

This is the "classic example" of angle shooting, and yes, most (including myself) would find it inappropriate.
