44 unimproved HU

Stars 5-10 HU against someone I've seen at 10-20 briefly has 1k behind i have him covered.

Im in the SB raise to 30 with 44 button calls. Flop comes Th Kc 8c. I check, he bets 80 i cr to 220. He calls. Turn 6h. I bet 310 he calls. River is 2d. I check call his last 390.

I like bigger preflop raise if you're gonna make it. I like flop c/r.

After he calls flop, I am done with hand.

On the river, I can see check/call is better than bet, but I think they are both worse than check/fold.

I don't get why 3xBB isn't enough?

Re: 44 unimproved HU

Because I missed that it was HU preflop. Never mind, 3bb is fine.

If you're going to come firing out of the blind you usually fire for more than that, but HU is a special case where you don't.

its bad enough taking a race with 44 HU, big -EV. But this is simply much worse than that after what happened on the flop.

Re: 44 unimproved HU

whats the reasoning for betting the turn?

I would have to have a read on villain as very weak tight to play the turn as you did. But if you read him as weak tight, why call the river bet?

the only way you win here is if he has something like QJc and is bluffing his way out or he puts you on a missed draw but doesn't want to showdown his ace high for fear of you hitting a low pair.

How is this a race? He's not all in. Villain does not know he has 44. He's not putting his whole stack in preflop on a 50/50 shot.

if you were going to call him on the river, then i think you should've have stuck it all-in on the turn, after raising it to about 270 on the flop.
