99 in the SB. Not happy with how I played it.

No reads on the villian. My image at the table right now is not good, I've lost a couple pot where I was betting all the way and was behind.

That turn sucks but, by checking you make it easy for him to bluff you with an inferior hand. I think you have to bet the turn and fold to a raise. If called on the turn check/call the river unimproved.

check/folding the turn is terrible. by checking the possible scare card you just invited him to bluff you out of the pot with an inferior hand.

What could he be holding that's worse that me at this point?

That would depend on the player.

How is Hero's preflop play? Is that an obvious reraise, or would you guys have called?

You have no read, so we have no clue what he could be holding. The point is, that if he is an alert player, there is a good chance that he smelled weakness when you checked the turn after betting the flop, especially since the turn is a scare card.

Well except that he raised UTG, called the 3-bet, and called the flop bet. Put him on hands we beat and hands we lose to?

What would you do instead?

Not to be a smart a$$, but can we really classify this as a read???

The question isn't so much what could he be holding that you're ahead of but how often is he holding a better hand that folds to one more bet. The 3-flush on the board I think makes it less likely that you win with a turn bet since half of the time that TT-QQ would have folded they now call. So I don't think it's a terrible time to give up. But by the same token it does make it even more difficult for 9 combinations of TT-QQ to call now. But QQ at least can probably be discounted anyway since there was no preflop cap. So all in all I don't think this is too bad.

Normally here I'd just call preflop and check/raise a lot of flops.

It's not a read, but it's information - and it's better than nothing. We can't say for sure what the opponent has, but was can give him a range.
