Priceline/AC

Just made the decision to go to AC on Friday. As should be expected, rates are quite high for this weekend. Does anyone have any expereince using priceline in AC? I do not have a car so this makes staying in AC necessary. I don't mind staying in a cheapo hotel, but seeing how I've never been to AC, I just don't want it to be in the ghetto.

Is it too late to get set up with a poker room rate at any of the hotels?

friday night in AC isn't nearly as bad as saturday night.

you'd have to call the casinos directly if you want to book poker rate, but you should be able to find a variety of nearby motels for less than $100. I just looked up the days inn across the street from the Trop and they quoted me a rack rate of $80 (before corporate discount if you have one). the more ghetto spots might even do 25-40% better than that.

I stayed at the Days Inn last Friday night. Its decent for a night. Its not quite the room you'd get in a casino but if you're just there to gamble and don't want to break the wallet it does the job. Its about a 50 ft walk to the door of the Trop. The parking is free there which is a plus. AAA discount is 5% I think.

go to www.biddingfortravel.com before you book w/ priceline

edit: it's a message board on bidding tips and strategy for priceline

I've used priceline to stay at the Sheraton Convention Center up there before, and it was great. Our room was really nice. Cost me about 80 if I remember correctly, and I just cabbed everywhere I went while I was there.

It's probably the cheapest and nicest room you'll find in AC without having a comp or discount somewhere else.

Use the biddingfortravel.com site that someone else here suggested... it's where I found the information on how much to bid for the Sheraton.

Can you explain to me how you did this? 80 is a great price for that hotel and I'd be very interested in staying there regularly at that rate (typical rack is 150-250 there). Did you bid last minute? How do you know you'll get Sheraton (just pick 3 star?). Thanks for advice.

Corey:

Call the Borg, the Taj, or the Trop's poker room, and ask for the Poker rate. Problem solved.

Wish I could meet you down there this weekend... but I can't

On weekends, I prefer the places on Route 30 outside of town. You can get an OK place for not too much dinero. On weekdays, you can get good deals at casino hotels, either through poker rates at the Taj, Tropicana, or Borgata, or online deals and other offers to entice gamblers and fill rooms.

If you want a poker rate on weekends this time of year, you need to reserve it well in advance. You also need a poker card and for the Trop you need to have averaged 5 hours of poker when you played there.

in the long run, you should get set up as a Total Rewards member at either Harrah's or Showboat. signup is free and once you're established there (play some nickel slots just to get into their system), you can park for free anytime at either resort, and get excellent online room rates which are usually half of what other casinos charge even during peak periods. and you may not have to pay anything at all for Sunday through Thursday nights.

Harrah's is right next to the Borg, and Showboat is next to the Taj Mahal, with easy access to the rest of the boardwalk. supposedly they are adding a new poker room when the house of blues construction is finished, but I haven't heard any firm updates lately.

Trump Marina is also near the Borg and has good comps, but it's a f'n hole. I use it occasionally as a backup because of what I built up with them from my BJ/VP days.
