Split decision

10-handed $10-25

Me: BB with $8858.
CO-1 with $585 aggressive from late position usually
CO with $2490 also aggressive from late position preflop usually

Me: Ks Qd

Pre-flop:

CO-1 calls
CO calls.
I raise to $110. CO-1 takes a long time and calls. CO calls.

Flop (board: Ts 4s Js): (pot=$340)

I have an open-ender and second nut flush draw on a monotone board.

I bet $340. Anyone check there?
CO-1 folds.
CO raises to $900. Doh.
I did not think he would do that often with a flush and that he would flat call almost always with the nut flush. Also, he might do that with AJ with the A of spades but often he would call. He likes to call those flops. He would raise sometimes with a low flush but I didn’t have any kind of sense of how often. Nowhere near always though, and probably not that big a raise. It felt like a set or JT or but who could know. With the pot that big he is going to put the rest in with any made hand and probably any serious draw on the turn if I let him get that far. I may well be overcalling my sense of him too, but it felt solid.

Your action? You have 25 seconds btw.

I like a push you have a very very strong hand vs his range of hands and maybe he has AJ or another 1pair hand he may fold to your push. Not sure on the numbers but pretty sure pushing the flop is a better move EV wise than calling the reraise and folding if you miss one of your draws. And he may not pay off the 4th spade on the turn if he doesn't have one. So include that in your thinking.

'I raise to $110.'

I rap the table and then check the flop in the dark.

Do you believe me Matt?

Would he raise if he had the dry Ace of Spades?

Since it is your money, I put him all in and see who collects the pot on the end. Next hand.

PS. You owe me $500.

I often do not raise there preflop. This hand I did.

Re: Split decision

call then bet out 3/4 pot any 9, A or spade. fold to a raise probably

And a good play it is if mixed up enough.

A gentlemanly response Matt. I hope you won.

I will let you off the hook for the $500. Brusier, however, still owes me.

I may play a few sessions soon and if I do I will post a hand or two to help shake off the rust, then disappear into the haze, again. May depend if I can get in a session of pot- or no-limit in an upcoming excursion. Been away so long I feel the need to get back in and start wading across that big wide muddy river.

-I check the flop.

-I fold to the raise. I don't feel you have any fold equity.

I don't like drawing to the second nuts and being out of position.

Re: Split decision

testing myself again, my 25 sec decision was to fold.

No fold equity and I have K-high. A nice draw, but still only K-high. Vs his range of hands I dont think getting the money in here is a +EV play.

Although folding to the raise might be the best play not thinking you have ANY fold equity is insane.

Re: Split decision

Lets say Matt pushes.

There's now 340+340+900+1480=$3060 in the pot for CO to call $1480 into. There's no way a set is folding there IMHO, and I doubt JT would fold either. Certainly the ace of spades + some part of the board is going to be calling as well, along with good draws. About the only thing I see folding is a total bluff.... which is not to say he couldn't have but Matt's read is that it felt solid so that's why I said little folding equity too.
