Proper use of cameras

Am I correct in thinking that the technology used to view hole cards was around several years before poker tv producers started using it?

What do you think of the way they use the technology now?

I would like to see the hand played without knowledge of the hole cards. This would let me test my hand reading skills. It is like when people post HH here and include the results. To much info to early ruins the game imo. Of course after the hand has reached its conclusion and it did not reach the showdown the hole cards should be revealed.

Watch old WSOP episodes on ESPN Classic that were pre-hole card cam.

They go back to that and you can kiss poker on TV goodbye.

I've been thinking lately that the WPT DVDs would be insanely sick if they came with an option to turn off the hands and let them play. That'd be great.

First the cameras go, then Dick Van Patten's expert commentary returns, then the Travel Channel moves on to bowling.

Don't forget the next hot games: professional pillow fighting and rock-paper-scissors.

I don't think my original post was clear. I want to keep the cameras. I just want to reveal the information they gather at different times during each hand. Currently they show everyones hole cards at the start of each hand. This ruins it for me.

Show the hand as it was played without the hidden information. Then allow the viewers to try to guess the hands. After the hand is over reveal the hidden hole cards or hands that got mucked. Several shows have a fox hut camera now. It is stuff like this that leads me think the cameras are not being used to thier full potential.

Just as I think the technology was around long before they started to use it. I also think they are misusing it currently.

At the very least, do it for select hands each episode. They do it on the Bravo show, and it's the only interesting thing about it.

They already do this. It's called "What Would You Do?" on Celebrity Poker Showdown. It gives you the option of trying to guess how clueless fishies will play. Are you not satisfied with that educational opportunity?
