Tournaments vs. Cash Games

I have played in tournaments and cash games online. Which makes more sense for a beginner? It seems like you can play many more hands in a tournament and get more experience with less money on the line.

In general, though, the quality of play is somewhat better in tournaments, although at low-buyin tournaments that may be hard to believe.

I would suggest playing whichever one you enjoy more, because there will be plenty of lucrative opportunities in both.

Thanks for your input. Do alot of experienced players read this section or am I better off posting in other sections?

I play limit cashgames mainly because I want immediate returns on my winning hands . NL tournament bustouts put me on tilt.

No, the experienced players don't like these sorts of questions.

I think you're better off playing whichever you prefer. They are different games tactically, though I think you can make more at cash games than you can at tournaments for the same amount of work learning and given the same bankroll. Tournaments give you more hands for less money - but those hands play differently so there isn't a lot of meaning in a comparison.

Posting here is probably best for this type of question. You might want to check out the FAQ linked below where this question gets an answer. The short answer is, play what you like.

sure, some experienced players post here and read the questions. i'd say this: cash games make you more money. play nickle/dime to start. tournaments do provide some hands and experience, but you also can get knocked out pretty quick and not get that experience.
