Can you make good money at this?
 

I have no clue? Sports betting has always interested me, but I know a couple friends that have lost alot doing this. If I even tried this it would be like the blind leading the blind!! Just looking for insight. Maybe a good book? Not sure if its even worth it. But Im always looking for something different to try.

I've made a decent amount betting sports in the past 8 months, and I've made far more than my share of -EV bets. I can't believe I got away with all those parlays and teasers...And to think, if those a-hole Patriots had only defeated the Dolphins by ANY amount, I'd be $600 richer (money line was -10, several 10 point teasers came down to specifically that game)...[img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

So yes, you can definitely make money betting sports.

Find a good poster here and sweat their picks. Much easier than pretending that you know what you are talking about and making losing picks.

You can make decent money here but the swings can be killer. Always remember that experts who know much more about sports than you are creating these lines.

This is very sound advice. Stay away from parlays, they're -EV. By the way, later today I'll figure out my baseball YTD. I've been lazy about it, and all serious sports bettors ought to track these things. Hence, I'm not an expert (although I am up a decent number of units so far this season). So anyone looking to copy picks, follow the sports betting forum here religiously and bet the games that the majority of posters are picking.

If you are honestly interested in getting serious about sportsbetting, there must be much better forums out there than this one. Some of the poker discussion on 2+2 is good, the other forums on here (sportsbetting and stock market, for example) are pathetic.

The quantity of posters on this board is small, but the quality of posters is pretty good, relatively speaking.

I think most of the posters on this board have realistic expectations of sports betting, whereas on other boards you will get alot of the bashing.

I mean, anybody that goes to a board to read up on poker probability probably takes their gambling pretty seriously and those are the people you want to associate yourself with if you're trying to learn.
