raising the turn to get a free showdown,what is it all about?
 

i see this phrase used a bit but i dont get it,someone bets into the hero on the turn,hero raises "to get a free showdown", but he is putting in 2 bets,if he calls ,calls he puts in 2 bets,
how is it free?

Raising protects your hand against a drawing hand and might fold a better hand. On the river your opponent will check both missed draws and better hand than yours. This gives you the option to check since you get called by better hands more than 50% of the time (If you apply the concept in the correct situation).

ok i get it now,so i assume this play is best against weakies that will fold easier,playing it against a LAG could backfire a lot of he 3 bets you?
