should i stay at horseshoe or orleans?

am heading to vegas apr 9 - apr 14....just for some fun and poker away from the laptop for a change.

I thought i'd try staying downtown for first time, so i booked a great rate at horseshoe for the 4 days.....

then i found out i'd only have to pay about $100 more in the same time for room at orleans.

So...both for poker and for accomodations etc.....what would be the better way to go?

I would (and sometimes do)stay at Orleans. The poker may be a drawback depending on your preferencesm, but it is a good place to stay.

I am actually staying at the Orleans on those exact dates. I found out on the web somewhere that if you ask for "The Mastercard deal" and pay with a mastercard you can get half price rooms during the week ($30/night). I forgot to ask if I could get an additional discount for AAA. But for that price, it seems like too good a deal to pass up.

Plus if you take their shuttle to the strip you should be right in the middle of a bunch of good poker rooms (Bellagio, Mirage, Flamingo, etc.)

Haven't played in the Orleans room yet, but I plan to check it out this trip.

I stayed at the Orleans last summer (to play in Orleans Open)and it was a fine fairly modern room. You won't mistake it for the Mandalay Bay (where we stay when my wife comes), but if you are just going to play cards its a good choice. (I havent stayed at the Horseshoe though have gambled there. If the rooms are anything like the casino I'd choose Orleans in a heartbeat).

One problem with Orleans is that its not walking distance to any other casinos (the Palms would be a very long walk I guess).

My 2c.

Have fun.

I would MUCH rather stay at the Orleans...... Both are far from places like The Bellagio.

To get to the palms from the orleans the free shuttle to the Gold Coast works pretty well.

Another vote for Orleans. Clean rooms and easy access to the strip.

If you're just in town to gambool, stay at Orleans and take their shuttle to Barbary Coast and you will be in walking distance of a number of rooms (IP, Mirage, Flamingo, Bellagio, Bally's, Monte Carlo, MGM). Plus, the rooms are nicer. Orleans poker room is a little rocky.

But, if you want an overall good time - stay downtown. Cheap eats and more to do. Downtown is a little gritty, but it is fun as hell.

How cheap of a hotel room are you looking for? All the rooms on the strip are cheaper Sun - Thurs. Are Orleans/Horseshoe your only options? Do you plan on playing in any tournys?

yes tourneys is what im there for mostly...

looking for $100 buyins or a bit more.

Horseshoe runs 3 tounreys daily....but only 1 i think in $100 range.

Mirage and bellagio have good tourneys too i know...

Orleans has an OK room but the tourneys seems mostly more low limit.......

Just thought downtown may be fun for a change, but not if i have to stay in seedy environment all week.

Has anyone played in the horshoe tourneys?
