If you were pretty sure that someone stole $4 from you at a B&M?

Whats up guys,

I was at Commerce last week (full trip report coming) and I was sitting at a table with this guy. We were having a pretty good time and getting along really well. We are quoting lines from poolhall junkes and rounders and stuff and generally the atmosphere is good. So the seat on my left opens up and he switches to it. Everything is cool and Ive got about $30 on the table. I take the $20 that I bought in with and stack it in one stack to my left because I want to keep playing with won money (only $1/2). I shift to my right to grab a bite of my burger and as Im turning back to my left where this guy was he makes some kind of joke and grabs my $20 stack, then puts it back down. So I count it and its $4 short and I say, "wow I thought that i had $20 here."

Now maybe I bet it without realizing but this is pretty suspicious. I start to get a little cold to this guy and so eventually said something like, "dont worry things will be cool as long as you dont touch my chips again." Eventually he moved back across the table and I proceeded to clean him out. He bought in with like $100 and had about $50 when this incident occured. He left with nothing.

So I figured that he probably took my money but that it wasnt worth calling security etc, plus I did take it back eventually through play.

So what would you do? If it was a lot more money I would have said something, but $4?

I think I leave him be if he's a bad player and you're going to get your money back. A bigger question is why are you playing at a table with only 10BB buy-in? Worse yet, you're going to pocket that 10BB and play with just 5BB? The casino is not going to let you take money off the table so there's no point in separating it anyway. Playing with a small buy-in is usually a bad idea. People will try to bully you and you can't even get max value for a hand if you have the nuts.

Snakehead steals much more than that from me all the time.

It was a little weird but the first night I bought in for 50bb and I got a lot of flack from other players at the table for it. Most people were buying in for $20 (locals etc) and I came to realize that buying in for more put a bulls eye on your chest. The second day I bought in for $20 and just started building. If I got low on chips I would slide a twenty onto the table and then get change if I needed it for a good hand. Of course I never took money off after it was on. But if you start out with $100 and you double it suddenly you have a lot of chips and a lot of people eyeing it.

I wouldnt normally play like this but "When in Rome ..." The night that I had the $4 stolen from me I turned that $20 into $80. If I had bought in for $100 instead it would have just been a big clue to everyone else that I was taking their money.

I would stand on the table, squat, and take a huge dump.

About 3 years ago (before poker for me0 I was playing Blackjack, and I ALWAYS count my chips after each hand, I knew I had $500, the table was crowded, no seats available. ANyway a drunk (or acting drunk) came up and stodd between me and another guy, the dealer let her play, she reached over to make a bet and knocked over my chips,I straightened my chips, counted them real quick and noticed I was $100 down. I loked at the girl and she was gone, I then saw her at another table,so I stopped the playa t the table and told the dealer to get the pit boss, they watched the tapes, talked to her then came back to me and she said she acidently grabbed a $100 from me, the funny thing is that the casino didnt kick her out but I got my money back

Pretty tough to make a big stink over $4. I think you handled it perfectly when you told the guy that everythings cool as long as you keep your hands off my chips.

You put him on notice that you were wise to his bs without having to make an asss out of yourself by calling security over 4 bucks.

You guys (other than sfer, who is dead on) are all missing the point. A player should *never* handle/touch another player's stack in a B&M environment. There is never a reason for this to happen. When you get up and go to the bathroom, or grab a bite to eat, you always operate under this assumption. Dealers are there to help enforce, but really not messing with others' stacks is every player's individual responsibility.

So yes, I'd confront the guy about it. Afterall, he possibly took almost 15% of your (way too small) stack!!

Players frequently touch other players's stacks to collect time in time-charge games (when that player is away from the table, etc).
