A LAG raises UTG and I 3 bet RED 9S

Live 10-20 game 7 or 8 orbits in with a TAG table image. Lots of 5, 6 and 7 way pots. Seat 1 raises under the gun, 2 fold and I decide to get tricky and 3 bet with red 9’s from seat 4. Lots of cold calling 2 bets but I haven’t seen anyone cold call 3 so figure I’ll take a stab at getting heads up. I figure UTG will reraise with any pair bigger than tens and only call with a big Ace or small pair. I’ve represented a bigger hand than I have and I feel good about taking the pot down with a ragged flop. Button cold calls 3, UTG calls and we have 3 to the flop.

Flop 89 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].

UTG bets and I raise hoping to push the button off a weak draw. UTG has folded a couple of times for one bet on ragged flops after raising preflop so I’m pretty sure he has a big pair when he calls my raise maybe AK or Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. When he doesn’t reraise I take him off Aces and automatically put him on Queens or maybe Kings for some reason. I think he thinks I have the Aces. No way has he given me credit for a set on that flop.

Turn is a J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].

UTG bets, I raise, the button folds and UTG goes in the tank. Now I’m really lost. I think he thinks I have Kings or Jacks and I’m sure he has Aces because there’s no way he bets out with pocket Jacks. He reraises and I just call.

River is a Jh.

Utg bets...

All Comment appreciated.

Thanks and
Best of Luck

if i knew for sure he had aces i would raise the river in this spot. thats really the only reason you wouldnt cap the turn with this hand if you were sure that the villain would bet into you and you could raise.

Good reasoning, so why not cap the turn?

You're going to win the same amount of bets as if you call and get bet into on the river. I would be shocked if he 3 bet you on the river and then you have a good chance of looking at JJ.

I'd cap and get him in now. I've been bluffed before with worse than AK in this situation by some players.

PF - If he's a LAG, 3 betting with 99 is pretty standard, it's not getting tricky.

On the turn when he 3-bets what do you think and what do you think he thinks?

Cap the turn or raise the river. If he has JJ good for him.

I like the call on the turn, he could easily have JJ there. When the second J hits on the river, raise, if you lose to quads so be it.

I'd be willing to put in the 4th bet on the river, but if he 5-bets, I call.

He can't easily have JJ, he's a LAG and we three bet him because we don't think he needs anywhere near JJ to open like this. If you're considering not raising the river you're pretty bad.

Re: I 3 bet RED 9S - results

Thanks to all. Maybe I played this better than I first thought.

I should have capped the turn, but I got gut feeling/vibe whatever that I was behind maybe TQ [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I'm not sure but the voice in my head said just call. I was a little weak tight maybe.

The second Jack on the turn made me feel better about my hand so I raised. UTG auto-reraises and a real smile came across his face. Not a bs acting smile but one of those man I’ll teach this youngster a lesson smiles. I call and tell him his Jacks are good.

Best of Luck
