How do you handle downswings?

I'm on a huge downswing right now (240 in 2 days) and I'm not exactly sure how to handle it. I've been getting the worst beats and everyone seems to be hitting the flops better than me. Should I take a break for a while, or play through it?

Thanks.

How about reevaluating your game/play?

When your game lacks amusement, diversion, entertainment, recreation; blitheness; jocundity, joviality, merriment; glee, hilarity, jollity, mirth and mischief because you are focused on getting unstuck it's time to:
A. Take a break
or
B. Drop down far enough in limits until you are able to regain a sense of the aforementioned.

Post hands that you feel you might have misplayed. And if you can't think of any that might have been misplayed, then you are almost certainly wrong.

Re: How do you handle downswings?

I'm on a 160BB downswing in 7 days and I recognize what you say. This is my first downswing of that magnitude although I only have 50K hands logged, but it took me by surprise (even though I know they do come wether you expect it or not =)

Despite losing $$ from my bankroll I am hoping to get something good out of this... Like a better understanding of expectations and the chance to really have a look at my play to refine it.

So far I've been told (and noticed) that I wasn't raising quite enough PF, I was at about 8% and now I've upped it to around 10% with position raises.

I also noticed that I folded rather than called when I had decent draws as I became so tight with the downswing that I folded everything if I didn't flop anything.

Finally, I also learned that I fold too much from the blinds, connectors and stuff like that may be worth a call.

Best of luck getting back into the game!

1. Take a break and regroup. You will feel refreshed when you get back to it.
2. Drop a level and re-evaluate your play.
3. Move back up when you have learned something AND feel confident.

I like to break things. Like a monitor, some wireless keyboards, and plenty of wireless mice. Experience has taught me to stock up when they're on sale.

Short and sweet. Once you go through a few downswings you will ho-hum them. They still suck but you know the drill.
