No. But this method for procuring a good vodka must be more fun.

on techtv they did it, they stacked 5 brita filters on top of each other and put the cheap stuff on top and let it trickle down. they said at the end that it was pretty much the equivalent of the good stuff.
then they showed some charcoal filter you can buy, put a bottle of the cheap stuff on one end, and an empty bottle on the other, set it like an hourglass and let it drip into the empty bottle. they said that also worked, though not as good. and it looked to me that the resulting vodka was a little brownish.
i have no idea myself, i've never tried it.

i've done it, it tends to make it almost completely flavorless, so people who don't drink a lot will prefer it to even good vodkas.

I've done this, tasting after 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 filtrations. Bad vodka gets consistently less-bad, and certainly smoother, but it still doesn't qualify as "good". Bad whiskey is helped a bit, too, but not so much.

Wow. I don't drink, but it sounds interesting.

I take your word for it, but this is the type of "experiment" I'm having doubts about. After five tastings, pretty much anything is going to start to taste better. I'd be curious to do a blind tasting of crap vs. filtered crap, side by side one after the other.

BTW, what type of whiskey did you use?

Does it loose alcohol content?

We were taking very small samples, and I was also doing exactly the experiment you describe. (We took some out after each filtration so we could do side-by-side tests.) There were noticible differences between vodkas 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4. By the 5th trip through there wasn't much change.

I think it was the Vons store-brand whiskey - it's an American whiskey iirc. It was certainly bad, that much I can tell you.
